What Is a Hyvä Accelerator Package, and When Does It Beat a Custom Build?
September 25, 2026 - by Alexandru-Manuel Carabus
A Hyvä accelerator package is a prebuilt Magento store on a subscription. What goes into one, who it fits, who it does not, and how it compares with building from scratch on Hyvä’s own published numbers.

A Hyvä accelerator package is a prebuilt Magento store. The agency has already done the groundwork, and you pay monthly or once to start from there instead of from nothing. The term is not ours: Hyvä uses these exact words on its own blog and lists thirteen such packages, all from partner agencies. This article covers what usually goes into one, who it fits, who it does not, and how it compares with a build from scratch, using the timelines Hyvä publishes.
The definition, in Hyvä’s own words
Thien-Lan Weber, VP of Strategy and Marketing at Hyvä, describes these packages in an article about how long a Hyvä project takes, published on 30 July 2024 and updated since (the Hyvä accelerator packages section). They are prebuilt bundles or technology stacks that Magento agencies offer to smaller merchants and young stores. Pricing is monthly or one off, and Hyvä compares them directly with SaaS platforms such as Shopify.
The difference Hyvä draws out is ownership: you own your store, you own your data, and you add functionality as you grow. On a closed SaaS platform, none of those three is true in the same way.
What usually goes into one
Hyvä says a package typically includes four things. The list below is theirs, not ours.
- Hosting. The server and its configuration, inside the price, not billed separately by a third party.
- Hyvä licences. The Hyvä Theme has been open source since 10 November 2025, so it is no longer a line of cost. Checkout, UI, Commerce and Enterprise are still paid products, and we have written separately about which of them are worth buying.
- A set number of customisation hours. This is where most packages differ from each other. That number decides whether the package covers your store or only your starting point.
- Basic commerce functionality. Catalog, cart, checkout, customer accounts, shipping and payment. What counts as basic for a Dutch agency is not what counts as basic in Romania, where euPlatesc, Cargus and Innoship are not optional.
Who it fits
An accelerator solves one precise problem: you want Magento, but you do not want to pay from scratch for a store that looks and behaves like every other good store. It fits if you recognise yourself here.
- You already sell online and need a more serious platform, not a design project.
- Your catalog and your order flow resemble other stores. If your processes are ordinary, paying for uniqueness is waste.
- You have no in-house technical team and no appetite for hiring one to keep the store alive.
- You want a predictable monthly cost instead of a project budget followed by maintenance invoices that move.
- You are short on time. A campaign, a season, or a contract that starts next month.
Who it does not fit
An accelerator is a trade, and the trade shows up exactly where your store stops resembling the others. We would not recommend one if any of these is true.
- You need features that exist only in Adobe Commerce: the B2B suite, customer segments or content staging. On Magento Open Source those get built rather than switched on, and we have covered what breaks on B2B in detail.
- An ERP, a PIM or a WMS dictates your order flow. That integration is a project of its own and it does not come out of the included hours.
- You have a design system your brand follows to the pixel. A package starts from a given theme, and rewriting it consumes the whole hour budget.
- You are coming off an old platform with dozens of custom modules that have to be rewritten. That is a migration rather than a new store, and the timeline is calculated differently.
- You have your own developers who want full control of the code and the infrastructure. A subscription then charges you monthly for work your team is doing anyway. A one off package can still fit here, since it hands the code over and leaves the upkeep to them.
How long the custom route takes
This is where the comparison gets concrete, because Hyvä publishes its own timelines. A Hyvä project built from scratch runs from 6 weeks to 8 months, and the examples in the same article show how wide that is: Megadental needed 7 months for its first project at a development cost of 100,000 EUR, and one month for its second.
The gap between 7 months and 1 month is not about Hyvä. It is about experience. Hyvä writes that most agencies tell them their first Hyvä project takes no longer than a Luma project, but that from the second onwards they cut development time by up to 50%. An accelerator package is, in effect, a way to buy somebody’s second project instead of paying for your own first one.
On Hyvä’s list, the launch times the packages advertise run from one week to eight weeks, priced monthly or as a one off. So the question is not whether an accelerator is faster, because it is. The question is whether your store fits the configuration the package delivers fast.
Where Liquid Framework fits
To be open about it: we have one. Liquid Framework is LIQUIDLAB’s Hyvä accelerator, and it appears on Hyvä’s list among its partner agencies’ accelerator packages (checked 16 October 2026). Hyvä runs no accreditation programme for accelerators, so this is not a badge and not a certification. It is a list on their blog that you can read yourself.
What it is, briefly: Magento Open Source and Hyvä, with hosting, updates, monitoring and support in one monthly subscription, plus 70+ modules built in house: search, promotions, checkout, Romanian payments and couriers, speed, SEO and data, and GDPR self service, where customers download or delete their own data.
- Price. From 799 EUR a month plus VAT on yearly billing, or 899 EUR a month billed monthly. The billing mode changes the price, so always ask which of the two you are being quoted.
- What sits outside the subscription. Development beyond the standard setup is quoted separately, as are migrations, large or unusual catalogs, and integrations such as Algolia, Connectif or an ERP.
- Performance. PageSpeed 95-100, guaranteed in the contract. Not an estimate in a proposal, a clause.
- SLA, in working hours. Critical incident: 2 hours to respond, one working day to resolve. Major: 4 hours and two days. Minor: one day and five days.
- Timeline. Live in 1 to 2 weeks for a store that fits the standard setup. Migrations, large catalogs and integrations take longer, and we give the date after the analysis, not before it.
Results measured on real stores, from our case studies: at Vitacom, for real visitors on phones, the main content shows in 1.35 s instead of 3.08 s and the server responds in 0.67 s instead of 2.34 s, with Core Web Vitals passing on phone and desktop. At ToMyBaby, the speed score went from 61 to 99 on the same page with the same test. At Equitana, after moving off Magento 1 with more than 14,500 products, the pages rated good on phone in Google Search Console went from 0.2% to 100%.
What no accelerator fixes
The part you will not read in any sales deck, ours included: Hyvä does not guarantee you speed. In the HTTP Archive data for September 2026, 66% of Hyvä stores pass Core Web Vitals on mobile against 45% of all Magento stores. That is a real, measurable advantage. It also means one Hyvä store in three does not pass, and the median Lighthouse score across Hyvä stores sits around 47.5.
The technology does not answer for the implementation. A store on Hyvä can be every bit as slow as one on Luma once third party modules pile up on top of it, and we have written a whole article about that exact case. When you compare packages, this is why it matters who answers for performance in the contract rather than who promises it in a slide.
An accelerator does not spare you maintenance either. Magento 2.4.9 has regular support until 31 May 2029, and Adobe ships isolated security patches every month, for Magento Open Source too. Somebody has to install them. In a subscription package that somebody should be the agency, in writing.
The questions that separate one package from another
Two packages at the same monthly price can be completely different things. Before you sign anything, ask these and get the answers in writing.
- What hosting is included, and what happens when traffic goes up five times on Black Friday?
- How many customisation hours are included per month, and what does an hour cost beyond them?
- Who owns the code and the data, and what do I take with me if I leave?
- What SLA is in the contract, with response and resolution times, not just an email address?
- Is there a performance guarantee, and what happens if it is missed?
- Who installs Magento security patches and upgrades, and at whose cost?
- Are local payments and couriers included and tested, or are they on a roadmap?
So, accelerator or custom build?
An accelerator wins when your store is ordinary in structure and ambitious on timing. A custom build wins when something about your business resembles nothing else: the B2B flow, the ERP integration, the design system or the pricing rules. It is not a question about budget, it is a question about how unusual your business is. If you are not yet sure Hyvä is right for you at all, we have an honest decision tree for that.
If you want the groundwork first, we explain what the Hyvä theme is and what we do on Hyvä, and if you are looking for a team in Romania, here is what we do as a Magento agency.
The next step
If you want to know whether your store fits a standard setup or needs a project, we will look at it with you. Book 30 minutes and we will walk the platform with you, show what would sit inside a subscription, what would sit outside it, and which of the two routes costs you less over two years.
