Hyva in Romania: Why Now Is the Right Moment
- Alexandru-Manuel Carabus
Why Romanian Magento merchants should be looking at Hyva right now. Not evangelism, a business case. Speed becomes real revenue on RO mobile networks, small markets reward fast shipping, and MM France 2026 confirmed the direction. With Vitacom's exact before and after.
Romania's average mobile connection is not Berlin's. It is not London's. It is what your customer actually has in the tram at 8:47 on a Tuesday morning, and it is why your Magento store loses the sale before the product page finishes rendering.
That is the whole argument for Hyva in Romania in one paragraph. The rest of this post explains why the numbers are worse than most merchants realise, why the timing is right in 2026, and what to do about it.
The framing
Most Hyva posts you find in Romanian read like agency marketing: "modern frontend", "future-proof", "next generation". Nobody talks about what actually changes in your monthly revenue.
This one does. Three arguments, then a real before-and-after, then what to do this week.
1. Speed is revenue on the RO mobile network
Romania's fixed broadband is world-class. Ookla puts us in the global top 10 for download speed at home. Mobile is a different story: uneven 4G coverage outside city centres, older devices held longer than the EU average, and traffic patterns that peak on the commute where connections are worst.
Your Google Analytics probably tells you 55 to 70 percent of your sessions come from mobile. Your bounce rate on those sessions is probably 15 to 25 points higher than desktop. Most merchants read that as "mobile users are less serious." They are not. They are choking.
Google's own research on mobile page load is blunt: every extra second between 1 and 5 seconds increases bounce probability by 32 percent, then 90 percent, then 106 percent. On Luma-based Magento stores in Romania we routinely see mobile LCP of 4.5 to 7 seconds. On the same store rebuilt on Hyva, 1.2 to 2.1 seconds is normal.
That gap is not a design preference. That gap is your Q4 revenue.
2. Shipping speed matters more in a small market
Here is the argument nobody in the RO Magento scene makes out loud: Romania has 19 million people, of whom maybe 8 to 10 million shop online with any regularity. That is a small addressable market compared to Germany, France, or Poland.
Small markets reward speed of iteration. If you cannot ship a checkout tweak, a new promotion mechanic, or a category redesign this month, the competitor who can just took the customer. The window is narrower.
Hyva was designed for this. In our own team's experience across 40+ projects, front-end feature work on Hyva takes 5 to 6 times less time than on Luma. Fewer files to touch, no RequireJS spaghetti, no Knockout binding to debug at 2 AM before a Black Friday freeze. The DevParadise 2026 talks made this the running theme.
For a Romanian merchant, that shipping speed is not a nice-to-have. It is the difference between a store that adapts to what customers actually want and a store that spends nine months quoting for a checkout redesign that never happens.

3. MM France 2026 confirmed the direction
If you had any doubt about where Adobe Commerce and Magento are heading, MM France 2026 in Paris settled it. Uniwax, a French merchant, reported a +1725 percent Lighthouse mobile score improvement after moving to Hyva. Not 17 percent. Not 172 percent. One thousand seven hundred and twenty-five.
That was one number in a conference full of them. The wider signal was clearer: Adobe is stepping back from dictating the front-end stack, the community is standardising on Hyva for anything that has to be fast, and the tooling is maturing.
Our recap covers the sessions in detail: Meet Magento France 2026: what actually mattered.
For a Romanian merchant deciding whether to invest in a rebuild in 2026, the direction is no longer ambiguous. Waiting another 12 months to see how it plays out is just 12 months of Q4 revenue you did not fix.
The proof: Vitacom, before and after
We have the receipts on this one. Vitacom is a Romanian merchant we rebuilt on Hyva. The numbers are public and exact:
- PageSpeed score: 12 to 100 (mobile).
- TTFB: 15,814ms to 12ms (99.92 percent faster, roughly 1,300 times faster).
- Hardware: 8 times less (64 cores to 8 cores, 256 GB RAM to 32 GB RAM).
- Modules removed: roughly 180 (unused third-party modules that were dragging the store down).
The infrastructure saving alone paid for the rebuild in months, not years. The mobile PageSpeed jump is what fixed the funnel: same product, same price, same traffic, more customers reaching checkout.

What most Romanian merchants get wrong about the switch
Two mistakes we see over and over.
First: treating Hyva as a theme swap. It is not. It is a rebuild of the front-end layer, which means every custom module that touched the frontend needs a Hyva-compatible port or replacement. That is the honest scope. Any agency that quotes you a two-week timeline for a real Hyva migration on a production store is either misunderstanding your codebase or hoping you will not notice.
Second: waiting for the "right time". There is no right time. There is your current mobile LCP, your current bounce rate, and the compounding cost of not fixing them. Every month you delay is roughly one Black Friday worth of revenue left on the table over a two-year horizon.
A middle path exists if a full custom rebuild feels like too much scope for now. The Liquid Framework is Hyva delivered as a service: a production-ready theme kept maintained, starting at 799 EUR per month on annual billing. Details on the Liquid Framework comparison page.
What to do this week
You do not need to commit to a rebuild. You need to know where you stand.
- Run PageSpeed Insights on your top three category pages, on mobile. If you are below 40, you have a real problem. Below 20, you have an emergency.
- Check your Google Analytics for the mobile bounce rate delta. Compare mobile to desktop on the same landing pages. If mobile is 15+ points worse, you are losing money to load time.
- List every custom or third-party front-end module you have installed. This is what a Hyva migration would actually need to touch. The list is usually shorter than merchants expect.
- Ask for a real number, not a vague quote. The starting point at LIQUIDLAB is a 999 EUR deep code and server analysis that tells you exactly what your store needs, in writing, with 30 days of implementation support included.
